Health Education Presentations
2011-2012 School Year
 
Kindergarten and Up
 
Hand washing/Hygiene- This presentation uses a powder called “Glo Germs” to demonstrate how easy germs are spread, emphasizing the importance of hand washing.
 
Nutrition/Physical Activity- This lesson teaches how to make healthy food choices and how physical activity impacts overall health.
 
 
5th Grade and Up
 
Communicable Disease Transmission/Prevention- Discusses what communicable diseases are, ways they are transmitted, and the importance of hand washing to prevent the spread of many of them.
 
Eating Disorders- This presentation covers anorexia, bulimia, and the newest/ latest forms of eating disorders. Also covers body image and self-awareness issues. 
 
Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationships- We all have relationships with many people in our lives and all of these relationships are different. Whether it is with friends, family, significant others, acquaintances or anyone else, it is important to know how to have healthy relationships with people in our lives. This interactive presentation discusses the characteristics of healthy vs. unhealthy relationships.    
 
Puberty-Usually taught 5-6th grades.
Growing Up! For Girls video presents clear authoritative information about the reproductive system, the emotional and physical transformation of puberty, and the importance of good health and hygiene.
Growing Up! For Boys video presents information to help the boys in the classroom cope with the physical and psychological changes that are a normal part of growing up. The video provides useful advice on health, hygiene, and good grooming.
 
7th Grade - 12th Grade Only
 
Birth Control- Discusses different birth control methods and the effectiveness and pros and cons of each.
 
HIV/AIDS- This presentation teaches the facts about the virus, the disease, and ways to reduce an individual’s risk of contracting the virus and how to prevent infection with the virus, with an emphasis on abstinence.
 
Sexually Transmitted Diseases- Covers the most common STDs and teaches ways to prevent them, with a focus on abstinence.
