Home Health Nursing is skilled nursing services provided by a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse to persons in their homes. Franklin-Williamson Bi-County health Department has provided Home Health care since 1966. Unlike the Public Health division the Home Health division is not supported by local taxes, and relies solely on the utilization of services by county residents.
Home Health Aide: To give personal care.
Nursing Care: To draw blood tests, check blood pressure, give B-12 and other injections, prefill insulin syringes, diet instruction, instructions on medications.
Physical therapy: For physical rehabilitation.
Speech therapy: For speech rehabilitation.
Social Services: To coordinate programs and access other resources.
Occupational therapy: To reteach basic living skills.
Any person in Franklin and Williamson counties who is homebound due to a medical condition is eligible. Client referrals are accepted from physicians, family, friends, hospitals and social service agencies, provided that a service is needed. Referrals can be made at any time.
The length of care depends upon the individual’s medical condition and type of care ordered by the physician. Services may be provided for two months up to indefinite periods of time. The number of home visits made depend upon the medical condition of the patient and the type of services needed. Visits may range from daily to weekly or monthly.
Medicare, Medicaid, U.M.W.A. and other comprehensive medical insurances usually cover the costs of services. The Home Health Nursing Program is certified by Medicare and is licensed by the State of Illinois.
